Bali is a picturesque tropical paradise – A photographer and poser’s delight. A backdrop consisting of anything beautiful and divine that you can fathom. Be it the turquoise blue waters merging into infinity or a dramatic coastlines heaped with pearl white sandgrains. A majestic mountain standing tall and mighty in all its glory or intricately carved temples emanating heavenly bliss or the luscious rice terraces spread as far as your eyes can see. Bali provides the perfect backdrop for stunning postcard worthy Instagram shots.

1. Pura Lempunyang Temple (East Bali)

I’m sure that by now you would have seen millions of photos in your feed featuring the beautiful Gates of Heaven, with foams of cotton candy clouds and the mighty Mount Agung  in the backdrop. And between the two temple gates, a couple gleefully posing and their photographs meticulously captured with an unfaltering reflection.

But behind this intricately curated, picture perfect, insta worthy shot are hundreds of candidates patiently waiting for their turn. Tickets are priced at around IDR 125000 (all inclusive – Sarong, Photos, Ride to Hilltop ).

But if you wish to avoid the crowds and take a perfect sunrise shot, start from Ubud by 3:30 am. The temple gates open at 6 am but you can reserve your spot by purchasing an early (numbered) ticket.

2. Tegalalang Rice Terraces (Ubud)

Coming from a tropical state where lush paddy fields are in abundance, visiting a rice terrace did not hold a novelty for us. But the luscious spread of green cut in layers, converging in ripples were a sight to see. It had just rained the previous night. So the fresh spread of lush green, and the smell of nectar from the flowers effortlessly sprouting along the edges did not disappoint. Add to it a swing suspended on a high land and flying into oblivion with only the rice terrace for company.

3. Pura Ulan Danu (North Bali)

Pura Ulan Danu Bratan also referred to as the ‘Floating Temple’ provides the perfect backdrop for a gorgeous awe-inspiring photoshoot. The mountains encircling this location give it the characteristic mesmerizing, dreamy touch and make this temple a hot spot for photographers and tourists. Historical Relevance, characteristic Balinese Architeture and picturesque location – this temple has it all.

If you are in the mood for a no obstruction picture perfect photography, try to reach there before 9 am. By mid-day, the place is swarming with tourists and photographers, killing the vibe and feel of the place.

4. Aloha Ubud Swing (Central Bali)

Another man made Instagrammable marvel. A floral Swing, an adventure swing, a cove swing and many more strategically constructed at a themed nature park, attracts hundreds of influencers every day. Although the place is not as crowded as the others mentioned above, make sure that you reach the place by 9:30 am for an easy breezy photoshoot.

5. Mount Batur Sunrise Spot (North Bali)

Every Sunrise is an invitation to brighten someone’s day and more so if you watch the sun make its ascend from behind a tall volcanic mountain. Wake up at an ungodly hour (2:00 AM), trek your way up the slopes. Find yourself a spot amidst the hardened remains of the red molten lava across the caldera that were spewed from the mountains some 50 years ago. Get yourself some hot Cappucino at around IDR 30,000 and brace yourself for the most amazing sunrise experience.

6. Handara Gate (North Bali)

The Balour Balinese gate of Handara – the path to serenity, is one of the most iconic hotspot for photography. And one of the top instagrammable locations in Bali. Make a wonderful picture in front of the Handara Gate with the breathtaking view of green scenery and gigantic exotic Balinese Gates as your backdrop.

Pamper your eyes with the lush green surroundings and amazing picture of the smoky hills between the gates, that makes up for a picture perfect postcard shot for your Balinese Holiday.

7. Tukad Cepung Waterfall (North Bali)

You will have to encounter many a pebbles and rough rocks. Push yourself through flowing puddles, climb up and down some steep slopes to reach this spectacular waterfall. The sunlight seeps in through a brief opening at the top and falls on the glistening waters giving the entire ambience, an ethereal look – making the entire effort worthwhile.

8. Tanah Lot (South-West Bali)

Seated on a large spiritual offshore rock and extended upto the mighty sea waters, this iconic Balinese jewel is always a photographer’s favourite. Famed for its gorgeous sunsets and even more for the soothing breeze kissing your cheeks every second this holy abode provides for an impeccable overall experience.

Be ready to witness a festive parade during the mid hours. If you want to avoid the humdrums of a noisy crowd and the shutterblocks of your camera lens, visit during the wee hours of the morning or in the twilight hours of the evening.

9. Uluwatu Temple (South Bali)

Another seaside temple perched up a cliff and draped by the choicest of seasonal flowers throughout.

Arrive atleast two hours before sundown and reserve your seat for the sunset Kecak dance.

And like tea dissolving in hot water, watch the sun dissolving in the skies creating a velvet horizon for the stars’ dance with the moon, the awaited multicoloured joy for the wounded soul. . .

With each minute of the sun inching towards sunset, the music and chants of Kecak Fire dance intensifies.  Once the sunset is achieved and darkness starts to envelope the horizon, the fire play increases in rigour and illuminates the pitch dark ambience. A must watch, a must feel and a must photograph experience.

10. Nyang Nyang Beach (South Bali)

There are fewer rituals more relaxing and rejuvenating than spending time on a beach. More so when the water is clear turquoise, the sand pearly white and shrouded by mighty limestone rocks in the background. A relatively quiet beach shack provides for the yummiest coconut water and crafted beer. This is not a beach where you swim. You just seat by the moist sands and click amazing photographs!
